Our guest speaker for the Thursday, May 3rd lunch meeting was Mr. K. Robert Lewis. Mr. Lewis works as a Department Services Worker for The American Legion. His primary responsibility is to perform assessments, from which he and his team members can best provide ongoing care for all of our service men and women who have served our Country through our militarily forces

We actually 2 special guests at this meeting  Patrol Officer Chris Bunkley, and his new friend, K9 Officer Iris. Now while Officer Chris was nice enough, the real hit was definitely Officer Iris. In fact, Officer Iris even made an impression on the staff members of Mitchell's Cafeteria, and some of Mitchell College's students!

We had the privileged of having Mr. Steve Manuel with us. Steve is the Executive director of The New London County Historical Society, Steve thrilled us with his vast knowledge of historical shipping Maritime events, as well as displaying some fascinating artifacts which are in NLCHS possession

We had a very special guest speaker joining us today in the person of Liz Ellis. Liz is The Public Relations Representative of Heifer New England, (New England's Chapter of Heifer International).

Heifer International (also known as Heifer Project International) is a global nonprofit working to eradicate poverty and hunger through sustainable, values-based holistic community development Heifer distributes animals, along with agricultural and values-based training, to families in need around the world as a means of providing self-sufficiency. Recipients must agree to “pass on the gift” by sharing animal offspring, as well as the skills and knowledge of animal husbandry...

Our Last week guest speaker was David Putnam, The Parks and Recreation Director for the Town of East Lyme, CT.  David shared information with the group about his involvement with developing a multi use sports field through the "Miracle League" of East Lyme organization. This sports complex is being developed to help meet the needs and challenges of so many youths who face multiple issues due to physical challenges.

N. Blake King Scholarships - 02/08/2018

These prestigious scholarships are named in the memory of N. B. King, a long time member of the Kiwanis Club of New London and a former governor of the New England District of Kiwanis in 1966.

Applications are evaluated on academic achievement, financial need, community service and extracurricular activities.

Applications are accepted from students at the attending high school in thefollowing towns: New London, Waterford, Groton, East Lyme, Lyme-Old Lyme, Montville, Ledyard, and Norwich.

Applications for scholarships must be received by April 30, 2018. Applications are available in participating high schools guidance office or may be downloaded here.
